  • 1979

    January 31, 1979-  KICX FM signs on at 95.9 FM with 1800 watts at 380 feet.  Format:  Middle of the Road simulcast of KICX 1360 AM.  Owner:  Semeco Broadcasting Group (W.O. Corrick, President).  Transmitter location:  71362 County Road 382, McCook, NE, near County Roads 714 and 382.

  • 1989

    May 24, 1989- KICX FM is granted a construction permit to change to 3,100 watts with frequency change from 95.9 FM to 96.1 FM.

    June, 1989-  KICX completes upgrade to 3,100 watts on 96.1 Mhz.

    July, 19, 1989-  Assignment of license from Semeco Broadcasting Company to Ron Crowe & Associates for $200,000 including KICX AM 1360 AM.  Seller is headed by Mary Lou Corrick, personal representative of the estate of Wilfred O. Corrick.  Studio:  802 West C Street, McCook, NE.  However, Crowe must spin off one of two stations in order to buy KSWN AM.  Crowe donated KICX AM to the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, and KICX FM becomes the sister station to KBRL.   Ron Crowe is the general manager.

  • 1996

    Ron Crowe & Associates sell KICX 96.1 FM and KBRL 1300 AM to McCook Radio Group (Dave & Connie Stout).  KICX format flips to Adult Contemporary branded as “KICX 96.1 FM”.

  • 2000

    McCook Radio Group purchases KRKU 98.5 FM and all studios/offices move to 1811 West O Street in McCook.

  • 2001

    McCook Radio Group upgrades KICX 96.1 FM signal to 55,000 watts at 318 feet.

  • 2007

    January 2007- McCook Radio Group (Dave & Connie Stout) agrees to sell to Armada Media (Jim Courselle, President, Fond Du Lac, Wisconsin) for $3.6 million in a package deal that includes KICX 96.1 FM, and KRKU 98.5 FM McCook, KFNF 101.1 FM, Oberlin, KS; KADL 102.9 FM, Imperial, NE, KSTH 92.3 Holyoke, KS and KJBL 96.5 FM Julesburg, CO, plus a construction permit for a new 50,000 watts FM on 103.9 in McCook.  KRKU has a construction permit to move to the North Platte, NE market.  (McCook Radio Group also won a construction permit for KNAX 700 AM, McCook in 2003, but the CP has now expired and is not included in this deal.
