    May 1, 1981-  KZMX 105.3 FM signs on in McCook, NE.  Jerell Kautz, President & General Manager, owner along with wife Kathy Kautz.   100,000 watts at 400 Feet.  Format: Adult Contemporary/Variety.  Transmitter:  West of McCook off State Route 17, South of Culbertson, NE.

    September 29, 1982-  Change in Construction permit to 31,000 watts at 247 Feet.

  • 1983

    April 8, 1983- KZMC seeks assignment from Jerrel Kautz, owner, to KZMC, Inc. with Jerrell Kautz 40% owner, John A. Cartright 30%, John A. Cartright Jr. and James S. Cartright, 15% each.  Transaction done to incorporate Kautz’ proprietorship and bring in other stockholders.

  • 1984

    Studio Address:  407 West 5th Street, McCook.  Format adjustment to Adult Contemporary.

    Studio address changed to 106 West 8th Street in 1989.

  • 1991

    December 18, 1991-  Granted assignment from KZMC, Inc. to AmFirst Bank for $180,000 in lieu of foreclosure.  Seller headed by John Cartright (15% owner).

  • 1994

    October 11, 1994-  AmFirst changes call letters to KKYT.

  • 1996

    April 22, 1996- KZMC, Inc sells to Austin McCook LLC for $470,000.  Jay Austin, CEO, President and General Manager, along with wife Eileen Austin.   Station is owned by the Austins for 10 years.

  • 1998

    September 1, 1998- Austin McCook acquires KSWN, 93.9 FM, 50,000 watts at 492 Feet, now co-owned with KKYT.

    October 15, 1998-  KKYT Call letters are changed to KIOD.

  • 2005

    October 13, 2005-Austin McCook (Jay Austin) sell KIOD to Legacy Communications (Jay Vavricek) for $1.3 million, which also includes KSWN.
