September 1, 1967- KMNE (call sign means “Middle Nebraska”) signs on Channel 7 with ERP 27kw at 1,486 feet, licensed to Bassett, NE. Station is part of a state network of public and radio television in Nebraska on the Campus of the University of Nebraska. In 1961 five VHF & three UHF channels were allocated for educational use in Nebraska. In 1963, the state legislature approved plans for a statewide educational network under the control of the NETC. Programming duplicated that of KUON TV, channel 12, a PBS affiliate.

1972
The Terry M. Carpenter & Jack McBride Nebraska Public Media Center opened in 1972 on the East Campus of the University of Nebraska, 1800 North 33rd Street in Lincoln, the headquarters of the network of stations. McBride was the founding General Manager and remained so for 43 years.
KMNE also repeats its signal on translator K31OC-D, Broken Bow.
