FCC dismissed Tri-State Broadcasting Association’s to upgrade to 80,000 watts due to possible interference to KWNB Channel 6 in Hayes Center, NE. Stations on the lower end of the FM band are required to prevent interference to TV stations on channel 6, but KJTF had initially asserted that the protection didn’t apply to digital TV stations. The station remained on channel 6 after the conclusion of analog broadcasting. KWNB’s owner, Pappas Broadcasting, vehemently disagreed. The FCC concluded that while some interference may be tolerable, too many people would be negatively affected by allowing the upgrade.
