Through the Years

• 1999

  July, 1999-KVSS (VSS Catholic Communications, Stephen Hruby,Omaha) buys KNOS (Omaha Community Broadcasting, Bill Thompson) for $100,000.  Station has been silent since previous year due to financial reasons.

• 2000

  January, 2000- Station returns to air as KVSS for veni. Sancte. Spiritus.  Studios/offices/transmitter:  5829 North 60th Street.  89.3 FM at 59 feet.

  Format:  National and local Catholic talk, devotions and music, 24-hour.  Satellite-delivered programming from Catholic Network EWTN.  KVSS is a nonprofit station blessed but not funded by the archdiocese.  The station is  funded by donors and underwriters.

  September, 2000-  Power upgrade to 1,000 watts is authorized.  Increased to just 500 watts however.

• 2001

  Authorized to 2,750 watts, but constructed instead at 1,500 watts at 380 feet on the WOWT tower at 72nd and Crown Point in Omaha.  Chapel is added adjacent to the strip-mall studios at 5829 North 60th Street.   Jim Carroll is Station Manager.

• 2008

  March, 2008- KVSS begins a fundraising campaign with a goal of $3.5 million by  May 25 in an attempt to move to a 100,000 watts signal.  KVSS is partnering with Kolbe Media, which has been trying to launch a Catholic radio station in Lincoln.  The location of the new signal being sought is revealed to be 102.7, KBZR (The Blaze) in Lincoln.  (June)

  KBZR, with a construction permit to move into the Omaha market that includes a community of license change to Papillion and 100,000 watts at 981 feet from Omaha, is modified to 54,500 watts at 1264 feet from a tower site south of Gretna, NE, which would allow it to maintain a strong signal to Lincoln while still changing the community of license to Papillion and adding Omaha coverage.
  December, 2008- KBZR sale from Chapin Enterprises (via Three Eagles) to VSS Communications for $4.5 Million is approved.

• 2009

  January 29, 2009- KVSS begins simulcasting its programming on 88.9 and 102.7.  The move to the new tower is expected in the spring.

  June 9, 2009- Move to the new tower near Gretna  (the KPTM tower) is completed Jun e 9 with 46,100 watts at 127 Feet.  Transmitter location is the KPTM tower at 204th & Pflug Road, 11 miles west-southwest of Papillion, 17 miles from Omaha.  Community of license is changed to Papillion.  Official call sign is still KBZR until authorized as KVSS on June 23, 2009.

  KVSS Catholic Communication sells to 88.9 to Bible Broadcasting Network for $825,000. BBN changes call letters to KYFG when VSS programming is moved to 102.7  in June.

• 2011

  Studios/offices are moved to 13325 A Street in Omaha, a building purchased by VSS Communications.
